SUTENT Dosing

It’s important to remember to take SUTENT as directed by your doctor. Do not change your dose or stop taking SUTENT without first talking with your doctor. Your doctor may change how you take SUTENT or tell you to stop taking SUTENT.

The dose of SUTENT that you are prescribed by your doctor depends on whether you have advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST*), or advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET). The recommended dosages for each type of cancer are below.

SUTENT comes in 12.5 mg, 25 mg, 37.5 mg, and 50 mg capsules. Your dose is taken by mouth once daily, with or without food. It's important to remember to take SUTENT as directed by your healthcare team.

You may experience side effects when taking SUTENT. Tell your doctor about any changes in how you feel. If you’re having some side effects, your doctor may decide to adjust or stop your treatment. Adjuvant Treatment Dosing

Recommended dosage for adults with kidney cancer that has not spread (localized) and who are at high risk of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) coming back after having kidney cancer surgery (adjuvant treatment)

If you are prescribed SUTENT as adjuvant therapy, the recommended dose is 50 mg taken orally once a day.

  • SUTENT is taken in 6-week cycles
    • SUTENT is taken every day for the first 4 weeks (days 1 to 28) of this cycle
    • It is stopped for the next 2 weeks (days 29 to 42) to complete this cycle
    • Then the next 6-week cycle begins
    • SUTENT is taken for a total of nine 6-week cycles or as prescribed by your doctor

Recommended dosage for advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC)

If you are prescribed SUTENT to treat advanced RCC you may take 50 mg of SUTENT on a dosing cycle as follows:

  • SUTENT is taken once every day for 4 weeks (28 days), then it is stopped for 2 weeks (14 days). This is 1 cycle of treatment
  • This cycle is repeated for as long as your doctor tells you to

Recommended dosage for certain patients with GIST*

If you are prescribed SUTENT to treat gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST*) you may take 50 mg of SUTENT on a dosing cycle as follows:

  • SUTENT is taken once every day for 4 weeks (28 days), then it is stopped for 2 weeks (14 days). This is 1 cycle of treatment
  • This cycle is repeated for as long as your doctor tells you to

*SUTENT is used to treat a rare cancer of the stomach, bowel, or esophagus called gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and when you have taken the medicine imatinib mesylate (Gleevec®) and it did not stop the cancer from growing or you cannot take imatinib mesylate (Gleevec®). Gleevec is a registered trademark of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation.

Recommended dosage for advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET)

If you are prescribed SUTENT to treat advanced pNET, you may take 37.5 mg of SUTENT continuously.

  • SUTENT is taken every day
  • SUTENT is taken for as long as your doctor tells you to
