SUTENT is used to treat advanced kidney cancer (advanced renal cell carcinoma or RCC).

Having RCC can be difficult. Knowing your treatment options can help you face RCC.
If it is RCC and the cancer has not spread, the treatment is to remove part or all
of the kidney with surgery. People can live with 1 kidney. Even if both are removed,
it is possible to live with the help of dialysis.
The doctor will check the removed kidney to fully understand the cancer. This will
help to determine the next steps. If tests show that RCC did not spread beyond the
kidney that was removed, no further treatment may be needed. It is important to
have regular exams to check that the cancer has not spread.
If only 1 kidney was removed, then the other should be checked regularly to be sure
that RCC does not develop there.
